    Well 9 months later, at lunchtime today I finally managed 80Kg OH squat (slightly more than BW as I seem to have shrunk a bit over the year). Was very chuffed too as I’ve been chasing it for months

    A great lift, more so as you’ve been aiming for it for a while.

    Reading through this thread, I’m not sure whether out and out leg strength translates to the trail. I’ve a 2x BW front squat and a 2.5 BW back squat and close to a 3x deadlift, but I’m whooped uphill, on the flat, and just generally everywhere by others…

    I think I read above: if you’re not good at something, keep doing it. Great advice; specificity, overload and adaptation are the watchwords.

    It’s a small part of a bigger picture. Strength helps peak power but not necessarily your ability to sustain power for a decent length of time.

    Hill climbing is all about sustained power to weight rather than absolute strength to weight.

    NB 2x BW Front Squat is very impressive!
