Anyone know if a local council has a statutory duty to clear leaves off road or footway, or is it the residents problem if they have a tree in their garden.

Reason being a neighbour was seen a few times brushing leaves from his drive onto the road into a large mound, and theyre now becoming a slimy dangerous mass, and the LA dont seem to have anyone clearing other leaves this winter.

Also can you get a parking ticket if leaves obscure the yellow lines.

They will clear them eventually. Our LA normally let the trees drop the majority and then clear them all so they only have to do the job once.

I read that someone was prosecuted for sweeping leaves from their drive into the road under fly-tipping laws, don’t know if this would count?

Council bods round here last week came down our street with blowers, moving all the leaves (lots, 100+ trees on our street, hundreds more in the park across the road) from the footpath into a long mound in the first three feet of the road for the following sweeper truck to collect. The following day. Grrr.

It’s a good thing that someone was prosecuted. The council have enough on cleaning the drains as it is, if some tard sweeps all their leaves into the street then it’s instant flood after a big downpour.
