I’m in the area for a course, finishes on Sat at 1930 restarts in Keswick at 0830.

Can’t be there pre course on Saturday to set up tent on a site. So options?

Bed down in car (easy) but where?
Wild camp? What areas? Being from North of the border i don’t know the southern rules too well.
Site? WHich one? Coming out my pocket so want to keep costs down.

2 campsites in braithwaite bottom of whinlatter pass, one on way out of village, the other one carry on same road and cross straight over a66 down an old road its ont he left. Another one just out of braithwaite come down the pass into braithwaite take first left and stay on that road ita about 1.5 miles on a farm. Keswick there is a campsite by the lake or one just out of town at castle rigg, this is on the main road from keswick to ambleside just as you leave town you go up a big hill, round a left hand turn there is a small road on the right down there at the end on the left.

No idea on prices sorry, there is a caomping barn in newlands valley
http://www.lakelandcampingbarns.co.uk/barns/catbells £9.50 a night thats only a couple of miles from keswick

You can wild camp in the Lakes but the general rule is to stay above about 600m and pitch the tent late, leave early – no fires etc

If you want a campsite there is a good one at the base of whinlatter: http://www.stayinthornthwaite.co.uk/?c=lanefootfarm
Wildcamping is illegal generally but then whats the worst that can happen, the police wake you up and move you on. Be discrete, arrive late and leave early, who’s to know. I’ve done it a few times when arriving too late for a campsite or when ones been full. At the back of carparks is generally ok, I did it once in the carpark at Aira Force waterfall on the shores of Ullswater. Let me have a think about where else and add a reply later.

the carpark at the bottom of skiddaw might be okay, I doubt there would be many people around there at that time of night, and the carpark is at the end of a road so the polis won’t be passing. There’s lots of grass just over the fence, doubt anyone will bother you.

As a bonus take your lights and do the lonscale fell ride which ends there or cycle round skiddaw, be careful though couple of people have died there in the last few years.
