just picked up a nice second hand Zesty for my wife.
Can anyone recommend a comfy saddle for an occasional rider?

Without coming across as odd…look for one with a ‘gap’ in the middle. I ride with a Sella Italia SLR gel flow (on all my bikes), but that might be a bit pricey for an occasional rider. I know the womens specialised stuff is supposed to be ok, which might be a better price.

Go to a good local bike shop. They should have the means to measure someone for a saddle and may have a demo fleet of saddles. Otherwise it’s suck it and see. Fwiw my missus has Bonty saddles that she likes.

Definitely look into whether your LBS does a try before you buy scheme. I have 2 X Fizik Vesta (know quite a few ladies with them) and a selle italia gel on my XC. The selle is by far the comfiest and was also the cheapest of them all but the Fizik are also comfy for most of the day (and sometimes all day depending on which inners are worn).

As above, definitely one with a channel or gap along the length of the saddle is a must.

MrsbeanZ , tried loads and found the specialized BG too be very comfortable , never had any problems and she’s got 4 of them now , even put one on her spin bike .

It’s a personal thing but a Charge Ladle worked for Ms and Mrs R

My wife has the specialized BG saddles and loves them. They do seem to do nice looking saddles which still have a good degree of padding on them but aren’t sofa wide. That’s why they tend to sell for a decent price on eBay.

My Mrs loves the Charge Ladle

If the lady in question rarely rides bikes then I’d go for a more padded one to start off with. Forget fashion, she won’t want to ride at all on a racy type saddle which I would consider the Charge/Fizik ones quoted above to be. She might be used to that sort of seat already though but that’s your call!!

I built a bike for a lady who is very fit and wanted to get into cycling a bit with her kids – the charge ladle I put on it was soon covered in a big gel cover as it was killing her!

Wife has Fizik Vitesse on all her bikes.

Buy her a Bontrager Evoke WSD and see if it works for her. They have a 30 day comfort guarentee, so if after trying it for a month she doesn’t like it, then she can send it back. Win win.

My missus has tried pretty much every women’s saddle going, and the Evoke is by a long way her favourite.

Having the right width makes all the difference so get her measured. The type of riding will probably make a difference too. It’s mostly trial and error. The saddle I have on my hardtail, which I generally use for non-technical, mostly fireroad/bridelway rides is not as comfortable on more technical trails. I have the following:

Hardtail – SDG Women’s Allure
Full-suss – Liv Contact Forward
Road bike – Specialized Ruby Expert Gel

I believe the prefered term is bio mass channel, but when I was selling them I referred to it as a clunge cave.
