    Any good? Can it be used with a shim I’m looking to use on two bikes with different diameters

    Yep, works fine with a shim. I have a KS eTen non remote, and it does exactly what you need a dropper to do. It’s been reliable do far, and was only £50 on eBay from a German seller.
