Have set up my road and mountain bike cleats myself. Has been done very carefully but I’m no technician.

Can anyone tell me what the early warning signs are for knee trouble. Seems a lot people suffer from it.

    Cheers

In my case (meniscus) there were no early warning signs. Just one day BANG! I was simply walking across the street at the time and suddenly felt a click followed by increasing amounts of pain as my knee started swelling.

@cynic-al gauged the angle by sitting on a table and letting my legs hang.

Discomfort and pain really. It should feel natural when pedalling and not awkward.

Depending on where the pain is (inside/outside/back of knee) it will usually give an indication of what is wrong with the cleat/pedal set up.
