  • Kings Trail, Sweden – has anyone walked or ridden it?

I feel a bit of adventure planning coming on and have been drawn to the Fjallraven Classic walk. It’s 110km through Swedish wilderness and I have a notion to ride it. Has anyone done it? Is it a mostly pathless route of despair or is it a genuine looooong day ride returning the next day? Anyone? 😀

There’s a guide book now for the route especially for MTB’s so I guess its doable, http://www.adlibris.com/se/bok/kungsleden-pa-mountainbike-9789186433277 but that’s for the entire length, which is nearly 500KM

    Run Google translate through this:

    Swedish tourist board:

Edit to add, I’ve walked quite a bit in the area and whilst a lot of it would make excellent cycling there would be quite a bit of hike-a-bike sections.

Hey Sanny, I’ve done odd bits of Kungsleden on bike foot and ski, as well as some bits around it, but thats closer to 400km so not sure its the same thing you’re on about (kungsleden = King’s path).

Assuming it is, then it’s perfectly doable in summer. I’m sure I’ve read a couple of blogs or forum posts about people attempting it in a ‘race’ style, similar to a whw double. Plenty of info and posts available on swedish sites for trip reports etc. YouTube also has some vids around some of the popular bits, where some classic rides also use bits of the route iirc. There’s also at least one book on riding the whole route.

Edit- see you’ve posted on happymtb already. I’m sure a search on there will also drag up old threads and the reports I forget above. If you need a hand translating any bits and pieces later, post them up.

Also see that the chef has posted a link to the book I was thinking of. No idea how good it is, but worth a look.

    Hi guys

I am looking at Nikkaluokta to Abisko specifically.

This is really helpful, guys. As someone who happily hike a bikes, I’m not so concerned about that but rather that there is enough trail to make it go as a ride (mostly!)

Of the stuff you’ve ridden, how did you enjoy it?

    Cheers

Sanny, can’t help with that bit I’m afraid. Some good day rides by all accounts up there though. Re hike/bike, any bits I’ve done were hiking only where I had too much gear, not because of the path. Generally it’s “through” the fells, rather than over the tops so isn’t that crazy – knowing your route up and down the buachaillie etive mor I’d not worry about that if I were you.

Cheers Bajsyckel. The Buchaille. Now there is a ride! Proper hike a bike with a little scramble part way up but nothing to melt the head.

Have you any pics from when you walked part of the route? I like how it looks a lot like the Cairngorms!
