  • Kicked out of a Sainsburys on a hot day – Topless Man etiquette?

I saw a guy escorted by a Sainsburys security as he was not allowed to shop without a shirt.

I wouldn’t do it myself but didn’t see the reason for the guy to be kicked out as he buying a meal deal.

So is it poor manners to be shirtless?

Yes, no excuse for taps aff in a supermarket.

Minging. Even when on holiday abroad I always put my tshirt back on to go in to the shops/bars. Just good manners imho.

Yes. Excellent work by Sainsbury’s to enforce a standard of decency.

You can get chucked out of Sainsbury’s for holding hands these days, so taps off is a definite red card.

Sainsbury always used to be the aspirational middle class supermarket of choice before upstarts like Waitrose and Booths came along. Nice to see them doing their bit for decorum…

Good. Supermarkets tend to be quite cold anyway.

As for decorum, would it be better if someone was covered head-to-toe, Black’s of Greenock style? I’m not so sure.

Once again, Stephen Fry’s comment is relevant…

‘One is so grateful to Sainsbury’s for keeping the rif-raf out of Waitrose’.

How about if we ban cyclists in sweaty Lycra from supermarkets?

    Whiny middle class cockbags indeed.

    Happy Sunday.

That should definitely be banned. Cartoons have taught me that look is almost always a disguise for load of babies or small animals up to some shenanigans.

Phoar, look at that ankle, the jezebel.

See a lot of tops off here, or more peculiar, middle aged gents with tums with there shirts rolled up to the boobage letting the stomach swing free, seems to pass without comment.

Top off definitely worth a ban. Vests also, unless under a shirt

Ah, once again, a thread that demonstrates STW’s amusing middle class bias. I don’t like looking at man blubber either, but who’s it hurting, really? And is it really JS Sainsburys place in our society to be the moral arbiters of good taste and decency? 😆

Harm done = none. Nothing indecent or obscene about it. If you’re offended, it’s your own prudishness that has offended you, not seeing a normal human body.

I wouldn’t do it myself- freezer cabinets, brr.

😆 At last the real reason! I always wondered.

An ex was told by security she couldn’t be in Saino’s dressed in shorts and bikini top. He followed us round as we did our shopping with us ignoring him.

    It was a bit weird.

Is that the naked rambler ?

….I have a nasty feelin that he hasn’t been rambling for a fair few years as he keeps getting locked up for contempt of court…which irks me somewhat as he probably done more time than a real crim.

Sadly, no imagination needed, being reasonably local. Like C-beams glittering in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate, it is a memorable experience.

    Burn them all.

Without sun cream, there’s every chance of this wish being granted.

You are more likely to get wafts of unpleasant body odours from a overweight sweaty geezer who’s taken his shirt off because he’s too hot than one who keeps his shirt on.

Stop moaning and put a shirt on if you want to stand near to people who are doing their food shopping. A bit like parking your car, taking reusable carrier bags, and having the means to pay for your items, it’s all part of the shopping experience which most people manage perfectly well in accomplishing without any sort of problem. So there’s no need for anyone to be that precious or attention-seeking.

And it’s got nothing to do with being middle-class, even working-class people can afford shirts.

Anyway that rambler. Just what has he got in that pack? Obviously not clothes.

100% correct. There’s a minority in this country who just don’t understand good manners.

Even the roughest shops in the US have a “no shirt, no shoes, no service” policy. I see no reason why it’d be any different here.

    Vests also

So, a sleeveless top. Would gender affect whether or not that’s an acceptable garment…?

I ask as I had no trouble from management or security when shopping wearing a vest and shorts last weekend.

I’m not fat and I don’t sweat that much and (much to my slight embarrassment and what feels like childish awkwardness) I was getting a fair few glances from the female shoppers. **** knows why – probably thinking how uncouth and disgusting a semi-naked body is, eh.

I wouldn’t do it myself but can’t say I’d be horrified if I saw a topless bloke in the fruit isle.

In other news, Waitrose is rubbish. The two nearest stores to me are about the most rundown supermarkets about and make shopping even more unpleasant. Booths, on the other hand….

I really cant understand why anyone would care. I wouldnt do it but others doing it doesnt harm me or anyone else. What about lycra clad roadies in the cafe? Do they offend the stw masses so much they should be banned?
