I've had a CX (Kona Jake) for a couple of years now, mainly for a direct road commute with a one set of wheels and road tyres on, and then commuting home with the CX wheels on heading back over the NDW (nr Reigate to Guildford being the commute)
However with the new-ish developments in 29ers, better availability of kit etc, I'm thinking of selling the Jake in favour of a clown bike. Benefits would be a bike that is more usable on other stuff, a better (more comfortable) riding position - I think the Jake is a bit long for me, can't get proper comfy except on the tops - and if I had a spare wheelset for the 29er with skinny road tyres on would it be that much worse/slower that a Jake for the road commute? Are there 29er road tyres (I think but not sure that 29 is the same as 700C??) or if pcts I could get a pair of 700C rims laced to a pair of disc hubs?
So - help me to justify another purchase or tell me I'm wrong. Show your working, please.
