Hi could anyone tell me were i can find the exact route of the pennine bridleway between kirkby stephen and settle?
i have searched maps and the net and national trail site but no exact detailed map comes up.
when out riding around dent and settle Austwick i have come across it but even some of that not on the map.
Ps im suprised how many cyclist have never even heard of it including me until i came across a group in april doing it near settle.

surely just using o/s maps for the dales allows you to trace it.
i am just looking at it on where's the path, and it is easy to follow.

well we have all the latest os leisure maps and we came across part of it and it was a new built track and it definatly wasnt on our map. so i asked some locals and they said a lot of it is not marked on the maps yet as a bridleway and also some sections are totally new. i probably could find my way on bridle paths but i want to do the correct route. ps pennine bridleway is not the same route as the pennine way apparently

is this it?
http://www.sustrans.org.uk/map?searchKey=pennine+bridleway&searchType=search&Search=Find

Edit: not sure if that works, but you can click on penine cycleway down the right and zoom in to see if that's the route you are talking about.

Blocky, you are quite right to be confused! Whilst the Pennine Bridleway from Derbyshire up to Settle was created a few years ago, the section north of Settle is very new, and not yet on OS maps

It's gradually creeping further north, but at the moment, I think the route is defined only to Kirkby Stephen. More information here

If you have Memory Map, I can send you the mmo file of the route. Or send me your email (mine in profile), and I'll send you some pdf's

Hi

I have 5 jpgs of the route (kindly provided by the PBW ranger for that area). I can forward if you give me/post your email.

I would like to know the amount of climbing involved. Am interested in doing a S to N ride from Long Preston, 52 miles.

Cheers
Paul

I'd quite like copies of those (can't see an email in your profile, my email is in my profile).

Did you get them from Bill Brady?

YGM, this was via Bill Brady but I think it came from the ranger for the Dales section.

Cheers

Rode this today, great cool summer weather!

Parked at Long Preston station and finished off at the retro train station in Kirkby Stephen, afternoon tea with scones ๐Ÿ™‚ Train back to the start.

A good 8 hours riding for me...
...cheers
Paul

Blocky email me
william.brady@lancsahire.gov.uk
Up dates about the trail can be found here:
http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/penninebridleway/downloads.asp?PageId=48
you need the novemeber 10 newsletter.
The route in the Dales is not officially open due to three rail crossings which we dont have permission to cross yet. Once these have been sorted out we will hopefully be putting a .gpx file on the National Trails, Pennine Bridleway website as well as a map. The more people who download it the better argument we have for creating bridleways so once its on please download it from there (it will be free of course)
I have maps for my section including the interim route for cyclists which I hope to get signed up n the ground in the next couple of weeks.
So briefly
OS will NOT have the PBW on their maps until we officially 'open' it
Pennine Way National trail is for walkers
Pennine Bridleway is for Horses cyclists and walkers
Pennine cycleway/transpennine trail are Sustrans routes I think and are road based.
Peter Lambert is worth contacting in the Yorkshire Dales as its his patch you need
Cheers
