Just driving to work and listening to his 'best of' – Action Packed' – and it's rather good. A pleasant start to the day.

I love the Modern Lovers album (official and demos versions) but don't know much about his later stuff. Any pointers?

TBH I knew nothing of his work – apart, of course, from the epic piece so faithfully and fragmentally recreated by our harmonious brethren in the posts above.

This was a CD lent to me by a friend about four weeks ago, and it's been sitting at the bottom of my workbag since then. Today I was feeling adventurous, so I put it on. How surprised was I?

If you want pointers, these tracks are billed as choice cuts from various album releases across the years, and I like them. Humorous, clever, and most definitely inspired by old American doo-wop rock'n'roll and Beach Boys style songs. Very guitar led, in, I think, an electric-acoustic (?) sense.

    If you're unsure, might I suggest Last.fm or spotify.com for a tester?

    Good listening.

Fantastic voice. One of the true originals who doesn't really care if he's "singing" in tune or "properly". Love it.
Astral Plane is one of my faves – is that on the Best of?

Lol! Of course! I'm on last.fm and keep forgetting about how great it is for getting tasters.

Thanks for the rundown, I'll have a look (listen?) for some of his later stuff.

'Live at the Long Branch Saloon' is a particular favourite of mine.

Great versions, scuzzy and way cool, especially for 1972 FFS!

Ah, I see Action Packed is a later, solo best of.
