no jail. Court has to explain the possible punishments - it's a standard way of doing things. He'll get community service.

Think the judge had it about right with his references to the organisers. That apart think about someone peeing on a loved ones grave. I would say this lad has to pay the ferryman fro the journey he chose to take, and I would hope that at some point someone in authority will get to grips with the crass stupidity that goes on at Universities everywhere.

They're just making a show of it so that they don't get accused of being soft and so that he sh@s himself for a while at the prospect of it. I'd be amazed and disappointed if he went to jail. What he did was disrespectful and stupid in the extreme but shouldn't result in a jail term.

If he was aware of what he was doing jail.If his defence is correct and he was outside of a bottle of whisky, then no jail.Very tasteless, totally disrespectful, but prison? thus meaning he will have his chances of a career,education,which I assume he is at uni to maximise,cut off.

no jail, put it in perspective with scrotes who get away with far more dreadful things whether or not they are stoned, pi$$ed or whatever. If he had drunk a bottle of whisky there's no way he could be deemed "responsible" for his acts as he was effectively incapacitated by drink. I reckon the organisers are just as culpable. If it was an organised event they should have some control over/responsibility for the actions of their customers/participants. It is all too easy to condemn but how many of us here have been so pi$$ed that we didn't know what we had done until told in the morning? I know I have. Unless you are entirely innocent then you really have no right to call for his (metaphorical) head. Once when I used to play rugby, I was wandering round town after the annual dinner with a very well respected lawyer who ended up pi$ing in someone's letterbox. He had no idea he had done it until one of our party who was only half pi$$ed told him. It was out of order, disgusting etc but it happens all the time. Over reaction of this sort leads to rank hypocrisy.

I disagree.
I have no problem with someone peeing in public - assuming they make at least some effort to do it discretely and in a location that doesnt inconvenience or cause offence to others - i.e. into a hedge, or a storm drain.
Pissing on a war memorial, church door, school sandpit, the heads of those in the Dress Circle below you is a different matter.

The general public use the shop doorway as they do a church door.

Its a matter of respect - a war memorial or church door may not have any meaning or significance to you, but it certainly does to others. Yes, most of us have been so p****d that we claim afterwards not to remember what we've done, but much of the time, thats just selective amnesia / embarresment.

no uplink.... he was responsible for drinking the whisky, he made that choice, but once you become incapacitated by drink you effectively lose the ability to behave responsibly.
barnsleymitch - I do think it was disrespectful, I never said I didn't - you said that, not me. Had he been stone cold sober and pissed on the memorial it would have been different because he chose to, while in full control of his actions. He wasn't, he did something crass and disgusting but are you trying to tell me you have never been so pissed you can't remember what you did?

Its not, but a war memorial is in effect a grave. Regardless of relgious issues, its just not done to piss on one old boy.
Personally, I've always thought a night in the cells followed by cleaning the town centre streets with your toothbrush whilst still hungover the next day is the way forward.
