I wanna have a bunch of low bit rate mp3s (and videos) for my ipod AND same tunes lossless for playing through itunes/aiport express on my proper system in the house.

Is there an easy way to do this? Can I drag and drop the low q stuff & vids to the ipod without itunes, then just use itunes for the lossless?

TIA and apologies for numptiness, I just don't "get" itunes.

2 copies of the same file. 1 high bit rate, 1 low bit rate. Slightly different name to reflect bitrate.
Use a low bit rate play list in itunes to add the low bit rate tunes to the iPod.
use a high bit rate play list to play through iTunes.

Hmmm. Renaming the files could take ages, unless itunes/WMP can do this automatically?

how much bigger is a lossless file than a "normal" MP3.

    25%, 100%?

I do something similar – I have 2 folders, one for MP3 and one for FLAC files. I rip all my CDs to FLAC, then transcode them to MP3, so I have the same files/folders under each main folder. I don't bother with ITunes though, I have Rockbox on my ipod so just drag and drop. I use BonkEnc for ripping/encoding.

Tim – My HQ VBR MP3s are about 1/3rd the size of the FLAC IIRC.

Something like this if you want to rename?

Rather than renaming them, you could use one of the song fields to label as high and low res – comments box perhaps. You could then put them into the relevant play list according to the entry there.

You could have two smart palylists, and simply have one that says
    Match the following rule:
    Kind…..is….Loseless
Media kind is Not a video

    And another that says

    Kind is not loseless
    and/or video

Then just sync that second playlist to the ipod.

(You could do the playlists by bitrate but im not to up on differnt formats and what not)

Just have a bit of a play and soon you'll get it perfected!
