My Superstar Plasma is pretty noisy for everyday trail riding. Don't want to shell out £100+ on a big name device if it's not going to be any better. Anyone ridden a Plasma as well as a Strait line Silent Guide / E13 LG1+ / Gamut P20? Are they any quieter?
(I've tried running an E Thirteen XCX, obviously its silent as nothing touches anything but I'm regularly dropping the chain on rough ground, probably because I'm back pedalling half a stroke?)
The Straitline silent guide, although not silent, is considerably quieter then the LG1 I was using before.
My first thought after fitting it was; "Ooh, this is quiet "
First thought on picking it up was "Ooh, this is light"
Never dropped a chain & never noticed a noise using one of these:
Quiet and Light is good 
Straightline might be the way to go then.
N-Gear thingy looks good too, but my chain is jumping off the outside at the bottom of the chainring so I suspect it would still do the same with one fitted.
A bashguard would make it no noisier
I have a Plasma one on my little bike, it is fairly noisy compared to the LG1+ I have on my DH bike, which is near enough silent by comparison.
It seems to be the lower roller thats the noisy point.
True. One of them and a bash rather than the XCX could just do it as well. Is it a jump stop?
The straitline silentguide is very quiet. I can't hear anything from it when I'm pedalling and the pro 2 drowns everything else out when I'm not.
Yep very noisy on mine, took it off for uk riding (will go back on for the alps). Someone on here mentioned they'd modded the plasma guide using a mrp roller.
My bottom roller is noiser the more extreme the chain angle is.
Try tweaking the Plasma so that it acts as a guide but does not out too much tension on the bottom roller.
I have one and only notice it on extreme chain lines, mainly when in the bottom two gears.
What I did notice with mine is that it was quieter when I swapped to using a Wipperman chain.
I also use Rock n Roll lube and ensure my drive chain is clean on every ride
Plus 2 for the Straitline guide.
Have had one on the DH bike for 18 months + the Silent Guide is silent. Also just fitted one on the trail bike + it is whisper quite - just pedalling up a smooth pine needle covered bit of singletrack the other day + guide was a silent as a mouse. Not cheap but superb quality.
I've got a silent guide and a plasma, the silent guide is really quiet until it gets muddy and then makes a racket for some reason, must be the grime running over the elastomer or something. The plasma is a bit noisier but constantly so and of course its not as pretty! I think the plasma is a good bit of kit though.

Chain devices dont tend to make much noise when the chain isn't moving through them.
Anyway, the plasma is loud and just didn't fit my FS, the LG1+ is good and loose good due to the lack of bash ring. The Gamut is pretty quiet and very simple I like it a lot. I havn't used a silent guide but there are no moving parts so as long as you set it up right it will be fine. The guide plates are designed to wear so there is probably more ongoing cost with them.
