Axl
iswas an amazing front-man - one of the most charismatic frontmen around, with a great voice to boot
FTFY
As for recorded studio material I think The Foo Fighters are the best for consistent high quality albums even with all the different members.
I think when they get it right FF are a great rock band, but they've done too many albums that sound the same. The snippets they've released for the new one sound promising though.FWIW I never really *got* Metallica.

How about Girls Aloud?

Well I saw them in Manchester late last year and enjoyed it. Yes, he didn't come on stage till 10.30pm or whatever, but he was still there at 1.30am and put on a great show (IMO)(And I have seen them about six times in total with differing line-ups, either at their gigs or at festivals). His voice was the cleanest and most impressive at the Leeds Festival when Buckethead was on guitar.
Pity he looks like Mick Hucknall now though.

I'm going to see "Adler's Appetite" soon.
Having seen Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds, and Velvet Revolver, this will complete my 'set' of having seen ex-GnR-members from the only line-up that mattered
Pity he looks like Mick Hucknall now though

See, that was a gig and a half... And it should have been rubbish but on the night, they were amazingly good. Nunchucks and all (also had the brilliant comedy of Axl getting annoyed at missing their start time because of the Prodigy's slow stage change)
OTOH this year at Reading was like watching an old fighter who still thinks he can compete with the new boys getting knocked out with the first punch. Horrible.

Anyone going to Sonisphere then? Diamond Head, Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth and Metallica on the Friday night.

Glad it wasn't just me thinking that. I was at the just back from the very front on the left. Was given a fake £10 in change at the bar just behind. Sat with people burning cardboard to keep warm towards the end

Prize goes to 'Velvet Revolver' from Wozza as the most ridiculous suggestion.

manitou +1
sadly all my youngest and the kids he knows that are into rock have been far too influenced by the Hard Rock Cafe / media revisionists and think that Aerosmith and their ilk are the bees kneesPosted 1 year ago # -

Yes - tickets brought ages ago.
Last year was great too.
Let me say it again - ALL rock music is good - just play it loud.

My mum liked Rainbow!
Compliments to your mum for her excellent musical taste
Parents weren't always old you know, perhaps she was a rock chick in the seventiesI'm off to see Big Country with my twenty year old daughter in April and really looking forward to it
Now speaking of a good band, they were pretty good especially liveScorpions were excellent too, saw them at Redaing in 79 when they replaced Thin Lizzy, great set and The Tokyo Tapes is one of the very best live albums.

They may have been good live at one point, but given that Stuart Adamson died in 2001, hardly their classic lineup.

About to say exactly the same thing.

They played T a couple of years ago and were supposedly good but not my cup of tea. I'm doing Download instead of Soni this year and whilst I would like to see the big 4 together, I'm preferring the Download line up so far. Anyone that has seen Miles Kennedy perform with Slash will know that Axl isn't the greatest singer but then again I'm in the camp that has the classic GnR line up ahead of Metallica, best against best, it's just they didn't last very long and Axl went mad.

Obviously not, but they played a few gigs around the New Year and apparently Mike Peters does a very good job on vocals
Will be nice to hear that sound again and from what i've seen on youtube the crowd seem to be thoroughly enjoying itPosted 1 year ago # -
MIKE PETERS? From THE ALARM??? Holy moly. Biggest joke band going even when we were young and punky.
Quality control needed!Posted 1 year ago # -
Me thinks that a lot of "plastic" American metal bands in the 80's have given the public a jaundiced view of the genre of heavy rock.
The 70's was the era for heavy rock and there were some total gems produced in that decade. The genre was pretty diverse too.
This was before the days of fans' moronic air guitaring and headbanging.

Apparently their latest album is meant to be very good actually. The 70's was the era for heavy rock and there were some total gems produced in that decade.
