Is it really worth going for diesel over petrol these days considering the cost of diesel and petrol cars being quite efficient?
Does anyone know what the Vauxhall 1.7cdti engine is like?

    depends on your mileage

To be honest I wouldnt bother with the 1.7 diesel it is quite old technology not the best introduction to diesels. It is based on old Isuzu technolgy whereas the 1.9 diesel is based on Fiat technology.

With regards to diesel vs petrol unless you are doing a lot of miles then the extra outlay prob isnt worth it and also you might have more expensive repair bills if something goes wrong. What sort of mileage and what age vehicle are you looking at?

I prefer the way my diesel drives. Low revs calm the soul.

hmm, is this forum bust again?

anyway in answer to the question, i like the way diesel drives, but the cars tend to cost more, but use less fuel.

So how many miles and which do you prefer to drive.

I would say only if you’re doing serious mileage. Diesel cars require a different style of driving to maximise performance and many people don’t understand this, therefore they don’t like diesels.

Ragging the tits off a diesel engine will get you nowhere fast – use the torque in the mid-range and change gear early to get the best of the next gear.

Let me share a peculiar with you. I cant read anything at all on this thread. All I see is the Thread topic and the reply box I can’t even see steelfans’ post, I don’t know how he supports the question.
I like these hamsters so now curious what I’m missing, which brings me on to an interesting STW phenom; the blundering into threads while ignoring whatever valid point anyone may have said just to advance a point however wrong.
So in that spirit, diesel doesn’t make sense in the short term and petrol is a poor long term deal so you need electric regardless of your vehicular demands.

15 posts 5 voices? I’m going to postulate no one can see any of the posted posts and we are all just wondering what we are each saying. If I am wrong I demand an immediate response from user-removed. 🙂

    Will my post vanish also?

Yes if its got a turbo, I prefer how turbo diesels deliver power.

turbo charged petrol engines are good too though 😀

    is it still here?
