Is it possible to remove the brake lever (preferably without braking it) from shifters like these?

I have recently got hydraulic brakes and don't really want to get new shifters too, but I will if I really need to.

Realistically no, the shifter will be out of reach once mounted next to another lever, though you can hack off a knackered shifter and use the brake no problem.

agree, I hacksawed the shifter off an 8sp XT unit once but saving the shifter would've been much harder
