Hora, thanks I did know that but they were far more attention seeking and problematic than any other hub I have ever experienced (bar the current XT on my XC bike which had every single one of the problem people have experienced with them)either as a user or mechanic.

Adstick, I think the Cane Creek S3 is the same as the Orbit XLII we were sent some oe ones that were a mix of both Cane Creek and FSA branded bits, I would agree that they are a great option and I have / have had them in several bikes. IIRC the FSA uses needle bearings which spread the load far better.

I don't have CK but can't belive the stories of people have xx for y years with out touching them becuase if this was the case then CK would be making a fortune in the engineering world with such long lasting equipment. My Mavic wheel bearings have just been changed after 3 years and a lot of use. My headset is 2 years old and was a chep one but then i use a mudguard to protect it from the worst of the crap and that is still fine.

owenfackrell - My King kit is the stuff that works spot on but looks worn. you know the stuff where you wouldnt get much if you tried selling it but you know it works perfectly and is worth more than what it'd fetch.

there are issues with rear hub freeze below about -6 degrees or so.

apart from that I have had no issues with any of the CK that I have had and love them!

i have headset it is 8 years old, it was secondhand when i bought it, it has done 4 frames one of the frames wore out after six years the rear pivots ovalised it was a turner which i did maintain and changed bushings as neccessary, the headset is as good as new i regrease once a year, i have used it for racing long and short distance winter summer etc i paid £45 ish for it so it has cost me just over a fiver a year and it will last another 8 years i reckon

headsets and hubs on all my bikes.
regularly cleaned and regreased / lubricate ring-drive and they're FLAWLESS.
one of the hubs is 9 years old, and although the black anodising is looking a little violet, they're tigjht and smooth and the flange facings haven't cracked like my previous hope hubs in the 90's.
king is like an expensive watch. if you can afford it, you'll buy it and you better look after it

I got a 10 year old ritchey fuzzy logic headset. it's still smooth. yours for a 100 quid.

Had a ritchey fuzzy logic headset, lasted 6 months and was dead, totally worn out....
