OH has dumped iPhone 4 for Sony z3 but now 4 days later the iPhone still gets text messages and notifications from social media. How do we persuade it that it’s over?

Reset it. Make sure you sign out of iCloud first.

You don’t need to sign out of icloud. Once you reset the phone it needs an icloud login to add it back into your pool of devices.

    That’ll only make it stronger.

If they are iMessages, you are stuffed. I think that, once your mobile number is associated with an iPhone, messgaes with a preference for iMessage will still go to the iPhone rather than as texts to the new phone.

    Or something.

Don’t be silly. You put them in the freezer overnight to straighten them out.

As above switch off imessage, sign out and reset. For me it took a few days before other iPhone users phones didn’t recognise the number as an imessage number. The other stuff should be instant though.
