Has anyone been to Interlaken with your bike?? We are looking for a camping / biking holiday to match our previous good ones in Annecy, Lake Bohinj, St Wolfgang.
Is it more of a road or MTB place?
Are the lakes ok to swim in? If so are there any good campsites with lake frontage?
Is it best to stay in Interlaken or are there nice locations nearby?

    Thanks

Stay in Lauterbrunnen. The camp site there is really good but busy. It was my best holiday ever.

Hi Andy, did you take your bike? Do you remember the name of the campsite? What made the holiday so good?

Went a couple of years ago to a site called Manor Farm, lakeside and we did swim in it:

It is walkable to the town but you would not want to be carrying shopping, we had a hire car. There were lots of sites in the area, they all looked pretty similier.

Did not take the bike, the biking is up in the mountains, 15 – 30 mins drive in places like Grindelwald. Got the ferry / bus one day, the German bus driver's are mosty twunts, the french orientated much nicer.

Was red hot when we were there, is a geat place to explore, best views ever.

We stayed here a couple of years ago – fantastic views, restaurant on site, walkable to town centre, and we were given a free bus pass too!

Mr T had some brilliant cycling up to Grindelwald etc

    Thanks for all the replies.

Been having a look at some of the campsites and there is plenty of choice. Couple more questions – Is it an expensive area? Is it touristy?

Campsites at lake have imaginative names like "1","2" and "3" all expensive and ordinary. We stayed at "2" I think and eat at the golf club (!) which was fine and not too dear by swiss standards. Lake cold but there are places near town where folk swim.
Had the most amazing squall come up the lake one day which destroyed almost every tent in the campsite (hail stones the size of golf balls; the only way our tent survived is that so much hail landed on the bottom of the flysheet it couldn't take of!).
    Great holiday apart from that..
