What bike would you buy? I know there’s the whole value vs performance thing but, I was wondering what folk’s uberbike would be.

I don’t lust after bikes anymore. I daydream about having the time and money to visit all the places I would like to ride them.

I’d take a month in Canada or NZ on my current bike over any new bicycle.

I would get all my current bikes re-made, maybe with the odd tweak, in titanium. Except the one I already did that with. Ti is light and by far the most comfortable to ride. It has much more soul compared to plastic, alu and even steel.

Titanium full suss? I remember drooling over a tomac ti full suss before the advent of plastic bikes.

Kind of prosaic but it’d be the new trek slash 29, vajazzled with all the best parts I can find and stuff I like (it’d still have ancient formula the ones on it frinstance).

And a custom 29er hardcore hardtail, long and slack and light with a bit of softness in it, something I can race the glentress seven or an sda round on

Also I’d create a bursary to pay all the costs for a couple of kids a year to do the BASE Downhill HND course at Scottish Borders, pay their expenses and race fees and sort them a bike- the only requirement is that they race under Team Glentress Mincer for the rest of their career. If you had all the money in the world, choosing a bike would be least of your problems. I think you’d probably just opt for a quick choice – I dunno, a standard issue Spesh or something – before sorting out the cataclysmic impact of your global monopolisation of currency. I’m guessing you’d have all the gold gold reserves as well?

I’m not an economist, but surely you must realise that this is likely to cause big problems, I mean global ones. My advice is: don’t do it. I don’t think you’ve thought this through properly. Just saying.

My thoughts also, if you had all the money, you would be dead in a few hours as when all the have nots decided they wanted some of your mullah and also there wouldnt be anything to buy because making stuff costs money.

Geo and so many other things have far more influence than what material a frame is made of.
The only thing Ti is good for a cracking if you ride it hard…

I might consider decking it out with Di2, just so I could have additional gear change buttons on my bar ends. Other than that there’s really nothing I’d swap it for, regardless of cost.

I would have a titanium fat tandem and a davinci xc full sus tandem in titanium. Thats around 20 grand.

Happy with the rest of my bikes. They are what I need. Might try a full sus solo.

I have a TI frame that is harsh as anything. Its all about the design not the materials

If was uber-rich would probably spec with a Brooks C17 cutout, decent pedals and some nice bikepacking/lightweight bivvy kit.

Hightower, Bronson, Nomad and V10 – just like the ride styles they have.
That and a nice race wagon/van

and 4 Evoc bags
and top tier Frequent Flier on all the major airlines

This to an extent, I’ve given up chasing bikes really, try not to think about them, would just like the time to ride more.

But, if I do think about it, I’d have a Cotic Flare with carbon everything for lightness, 1×11 SRAM, dropper, tubeless, X fusion fork & shock.

I’d also have a Bird Zero TR, Orange P7 or Stf Morf in similar spec. for when I don’t want rear squish.

A pimped out niner for XC duties.

A stanton Sherpa (Mk1) in gunmetal just because.

A B+ bike for bikepacking.

Then a disx CX/gravel bike – Diverge alu smartweld probably.

And a proper fast carbon summer road bike.

I’d buy Marin and get them to start making zolatone paint jobs again.

I would have to spend a lot of time evaluating the potentials on the list in their natural environment, there’s absolutely no point being hasty about dropping cash (even if you had all the money in the world) on something without making sure it’s right.

That would mean, unfortunately, spending a lot of time in BC and the Pacific North-West trialling bikes before choosing the one that I liked best, which would probably be the first one I tried, ‘cos that’s how it normally works.

The shortlist would likely involve a Bronson and a Fuel and maybe an Insurgent.

I’d buy a lifetime worth of straight steerer forks and 26 wheels and some decent 27.2 dropper posts to keep my Ti456 going. Then I’d get my son the decent bike he deserves but which I can’t justify at the moment. And a new van. Then I’d go explore.

Probably a Yeti SB5.5 – don’t like the thought of maintaining the Switch link thing, but if I had all the money, I’d live somewhere dry and if I got it dirty I’d just replace it, so no issue there.

I wouldn’t commit to any one bike at all. It would allow you to try out any new bicycle fad in the way that people might try out a new brand of biscuit in their weekly shop. You could dispense with the hassle of flying with a bike by just having whatever you currently like built up and delivered to where you’re going. You could just have a kind of bike concierge to ensure everything is perfect and ready to go at all times, and arrange trips to wherever you fancy going. You can support the artisan bike porn industry by having all sorts of oddball stuff made. Even the off-the-peg stuff you don’t need to think too much about paint schemes, etc as you could just have it sent off to be done in your preferred colours.

You could just have a kind of bike concierge to ensure everything is perfect and ready to go at all times, and arrange trips to wherever you fancy going.

Property in the Alps, various bikes, large garden for a bowl to skateboard in. ‘Oceanside’ houses in California, Cornwall, SW and SE France. Aside from life’s essentials, food, drink etc. much more than that I wouldn’t need.
