While out on the bike yesterday, I went to lift my seatpost up and pushing the QR lever my thumb went extemely double jointed and hurt, so gave it a squeeze and it went back into place.

Its a little swollen but movement is fine.

I did the same thing ages ago when I landed on my thumb pretending to be a mechanic (jumping on a wheel brace) but can’t remember whether I just had to rest it?

Pretty much but if you having problem with it or it’s still very painful over the next couple of weeks or so then go and see your GP.

As I understand it, this is what happens – once you’ve dislocated a joint, it has a tendency to dislocate in the future. I think the fact that you were able to pop it back in yourself suggests that it’s very likely to pop out again. When I dislocated my little finger try as I might, there was no way I could get it back in myself. It hasn’t dislocated since.
