Kayak sledging in 3ft of powder rocks - you need the paddles to have any form of control though.

Possibly.

I've seen all manner of improvised sledges on my travels during my 'snow day'. So far:
Boogie boards,
Trays,
Kayak,
Inflatable boat,
Rubber ring.Plus the more common plastic bags and scraps of wood/plastic.
You've got to love a snow day!

Shall I put the kettle on?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Possible proof that it, maybe, happened (Glupton on right)...

That is brilliant!

Slugwash - I went for the S8 and Lendals option. They fly.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Bet that can pick up speed, Glupton is shorter than I imaguned

That looks fun - I've got my snowboard sitting in the back of the car. Just gagging to go for a blast somewhere. Bloody work!

If it actually snows enough here down in South Devon, then I'll be going for the sea-kayak option (to keep a straight line), and the Greenland paddle option (to keep, it real
)PS: For the record I got the above snow-kayaker image by way of http://www.canoekayak.co.uk/gallery/album.asp?id=363 It's not from my camera, and it's probably not Glupton/Smee/ISBI (delete as applicable)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogEvLpdFlCM is a good demonstration of this sport.

We used an old fibreglass Kayak 2 up lay on it, proper chavtastic! Control was a little bit of an issue though, fast and where ever it wanted to go.
It also made a fairly good rail for the rad boardists when up side down.Posted 2 years ago # -
Oooh - sea kayak - now that will fly.
Posted 2 years ago # -
its even better when you have a quad to tow you back up the hill again....

I'm thinking of giving this a shot;

Boards - Check
Ropes - Check
Fast horses - Check
Wide open beaches near said horses - CheckKeep an eye out on the beaches of Pembrokeshire later in the year....!

Kids around Radcliffe using wheelie bin lids and stolen Estate Agents' 'For Sale' boards!

My favourite non-paddling kayaking activity is 'kayak-skiing'. That's like water skiing but in a kayak rather than on water-skis. If/when it all goes wrong it's handy if you can hand-roll. (Personally I can't!)
Unfortunatey, I don't have any photos to illustrate the sport as I always have two hands clamped onto the tow-line, holding on for dear life. However, if you're interested, demonstations of inept kayak-water-skiing can be seen in action most summer months just outside of Dartmouth Harbour, usually on a Sunday morning.

slugwash - that sounds like a laugh, was it you i met in totnes kayaks a couple of months back?

I thought he going to say trolling.
