Since yesterday.
Done ok, only a few little bits of banned stuff like a dollop of milk foam on my espresso. But hells bells, my mouth tastes like crap! Anyone else get this?
I am seriously craving some sweet liquid.. orange juice.. or even milk..
I feel full and yet hungry and unsatisfied at the same time. And very warm.
Are you drinking enough water? Not noticed any odd mouthy taste.
The cravings will go, and can be saved up for your one day of gluttony per week.
Report back in 2 weeks.....
Obviously MTFU etc....
I feel full and yet hungry and unsatisfied at the same time. And very warm.
Lordy.
Anyone else get this?
No, but then I am doing a bastardised version of a low carb (non-fibre) diet.
own him with bombers
MTFU
it could be a kids face next time
vagina.
Non fibre?
Drinking loads of water btw not having any satisfying effect besides clear pee.
Should add for balance that this morning it was easier to get up than it has been for ages. Felt good like it was 8.30am instead of 7am. Also felt ok this morning, it's post lunch that I am flagging.
it's post lunch that I am flagging.
Almonds are your secret weapon. Not too many though.
Anyways, ignore my previous post. I don't think it even makes sense to me. I am currently doing this:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=129247741
It is at the level of complexity I can deal with. All I do is adjust the amount of carbs from day to day depending on activity. Always keeping carb intake below protein though.
Sorry to be a pain cos I'm sure this has been asked a million time but who should I PM to get the diet info?
oh and it's not for me...its for a mate....honest....
(It actually really is, he's chunky and I'm not)
Thanks!
remember the mid-afternoon 'thing'? surely that sorts out any post lunch dips?
Eat some fruit! Its good for you and will satisfy your sugar cravings.
I would have thought an apple would be more beneficial than some nuts, since these have loads of fat and calories in them?
you thought wrong DT
I've asked this before but what is the idave diet?
Mid afternoon thing? Oh, 90 mins before the ride home you mean? Yeah that's in an hour or so's time.
I have to say though that it's easier than just restricting calories. Although even that did get easier after the first few weeks.
you thought wrong DT
Its never suprising.
I've asked this before but what is the idave diet?
Its a new world order
I would have thought an apple would be more beneficial than some nuts, since these have loads of fat and calories in them?
Nothing wrong with apples, this is where Dave and I differ I feel, but if Molgrips is trying to curb his hunger pangs then nuts will be the better choice as they promote satiety better due to having a higher concentrate of fats and protein (even tho overall they are quite a weak source of protein weight for weight)
As for calorific differences:
10g almonds = 63 kcal
An average apple = 50-60kcal
Also with nuts, and probably more important from a psychological perspective, 10g is 10 nuts. So you can eat them over a period of time which helps to make the body feel it is a) fuller and b) dealing with its hunger issues.
Oh and they are portable and easier to eat on the hoof. Which is not to say apples and other fruit isn't, but you cana buy banana guards for a reason...admittedly a very stupid one 😉
iDave - could we all benefit from the diet?
I've not seen the plan, but would be very worried about keeping my energy levels up to keep visiting the gym 2-3 times a day.
i've had 2 apples today
delicious
i've had 2 apples today
I thought you were strictly on the vaginas phil?
I admit I am not sure about the mechanics of this, I think it's less about carbs and more about insulin though. Complicated stuff. The restriction of carbs to certain things has certain effects on your body.
There are many ways to lose weight and to manage a calorie deficit - I am trying this one despite not being fully up to speed with the science.
As for hunger - really I'm not at all hungry. I simply crave carbs, preferably in liquid form. It's easier to deal with than hunger tho like I say.
I've not seen the plan, but would be very worried about keeping my energy levels up to keep visiting the gym 2-3 times a day
Yeti, I was sceptical of this but you do get to take (some) carbs whilst exercising which makes a lot more sense to me.
The Southern Yeti:I've not seen the plan, but would be very worried about keeping my energy levels up to keep visiting the gym 2-3 times a day.
Why are you going the gym 2-3 times a day? At some point that is going to be counterproductive.
To quote a wise man from the internet, from back when I used to be into bodybuilding.
Nobody ever got fat from eating too many apples
Anyway, can I get a copy of the idave diet to the email in my profile? I'm really curious as to what it's all about, plus am dieting for my wedding so may give it a bash.
Jamie... because I love it.
jamie, i'm cutting down on vaginas... easy habit to slip and and out of, but always risky!
Jamie... because I love it.
I will give a fuller response when I get back.
Just off to the gym now.
(3x a week = Beefcake!)
I simply crave carbs, preferably in liquid form. It's easier to deal with than hunger tho like I say.
Last time I was on a really low carb diet I had this. I used to have a supply of pepsi max and sugarfree chewing gum on hand to deal with pangs. Seemed to work ok, but mostly you just need to MTFU and the cravings pass.
Since yesterday.Done ok, only a few little bits of banned stuff like a dollop of milk foam on my espresso.
So you cheated. After one day. Good luck, you're gonna need it.
think it's less about carbs and more about insulin though.
Got it in one. Read the 4 hour body.. same principles and i believe idave gave the author some tips to put in the book.
For info.. i've never really followed a diet in my life. Within the 1st 2 weeks of trying the idave way I dropped 2kg and feel leaner.
I haven't touched any bread or pasta in 2 months (i know it's allowed on the cheat day) and I i'm training quite a lot but don't feel any lack of energy.
Yeah there was a cheeky edit there too Jamie...
I'm not trying to be a beefcake and have now got the training plan I need to achieve my goals.
Today I'm taken a break from the plan though and completing a tri-athalon across three sessions. Just a 10k run to go...
Yeah there was a cheeky edit there too Jamie...
There was? Didn't see it. The beefcake reference was in reference to my portly self rather than you fella.
So you cheated. After one day. Good luck, you're gonna need it.
Baby steps.
But it's not all or nothing. A tiny bit of dairy doesn't wreck the whole thing, just makes it a tiny bit less effective. I am thinking it'll be easier with time.
Essentially... exercise is a healthy addiction 🙂
As healthy as addictions can be... don't get too obsessed!
Dear iDave.
Please may I have a copy of your miracle plan to the email in my profile.
Thanks
Crispy
It's ok molgrips... I'm not the obsessive type.
Anyone know if I can get auto-refresh for this site?

Go hard or go home soldier!
...but if it was me. I would like to be able to at least the first day without cheating.
Can I get a copy of the diet? I have piled up to 95kg (5'9")played rugby for years (hooker) so have always lifted a lot of weights. I know I need to do more cardio/reps but it seems to be taking for ever to lose anything. I have stopped drinking protein shakes etc etc
Thanks
I know I need to do more cardio/reps
Here is the thing. You do not really need to do loads of cardio.
In order to lose weight in order of effectiveness it goes diet > resistance training > cardio.
For all those wanting the plan why not use the site search.. or maybe someone's got a link to the original thread.
but if it was me. I would like to be able to at least the first day without cheating
I don't see it that way. The first day will be the worst day I reckon.
I don't see it that way. The first day will be the worst day I reckon.
My personal experience of stuff like this is:
Day 1 = Novelty
Day 2 = Hmm
Day 3 = Oh Jesus make it stop!
it goes diet > resistance training > cardioJamie, really? I thought cardio was first! too much growth hormone in my brain...
Here is the thing. You do not really need to do loads of cardio.
Depends really. You can lose weight in a variety of ways. Depends on why you want to lose weight I think - if it's alongside training for something else then the cardio may or may not be important for that.
For instance, I train for cycling, and for that I need to be lean, so the weight loss is a side requirement of cycling training.
I have lost weight before by doing tons of low intensity riding and restricting calories, but it was tough and took a loooooooot of hours. The new diet promises to be lots easier, we'll see 🙂

I have, all you get is a load of references to the diet in peoples' posts and not the original thread.

Erm...what?
Order by date in reverse order? Don't forge to select forever rather than the last month, since it was a while ago.
Erm...what?
What what?
More than one way to skin a cat is what I am saying.
This is the 4 hour body cheat sheet
[url= http://empire5.com/wp-content/uploads/4-Hour-Body-Reference-Sheet1.pn g" target="_blank">
http://empire5.com/wp-content/uploads/4-Hour-Body-Reference-Sheet1.pn g"/> [/img]
which I believe is very similar to the idave diet (Author of 4 hour body consulted idave)
iDave said this diet is good for getting to around 15% body fat. It wants to be less than this for cycling doesnt it?
dt = troll again?
Interesting, tricky.. it says nuts are ok but roasted nuts not. I wonder why?
dt = troll again?
No.
Well bf can be anything of course.
Your power to weight ratio will determine how competitive you are. You could be chubby but immensely strong, and still be quick. Of course if that same person lost weight they'd be quicker still.
I think 6% is the minimum on health grounds.
You can still do fairly well in races whatever. Most people I seem to see doing well have what looks like less than 15% tho.
it's pretty effective for getting down to 12-14% fat, thereafter some juju is required.
Sorry, thats the quote I was looking for.
Also, that 4 hour thing says workout twice a week maximum. Not much use if your trying to get fit.
I think the 4 hour body states you only need to workout twice a week to achieve fat loss. lots of people following the diet are doing a lot more
Diet needs to match the exercise you want to do innit.
I'm riding 200-250 miles a week and doing some other running and home weight based exercises, taking some carbs on board during that to help.
The urge to troll this thread is immense.
But i must resist....MUST!
It won't work...
The urge to troll this thread is immense. But i must resist....MUST!
I think they've all been exhausted on the other endless diet threads.
comparing body fat one person to another is pointless unless your getting scaned with a DEXA or using hydrostatic weighing.
your better off charting your own weight / performance / body fat. do this over a period of time using the same methods to find ideal body composition.
I know one thing... home bodyfat scales are useless... I was measured professionally sometime ago... 14%... homescales 17-18%.
I'm a hell of a lot leaner now... homescales 19.5%.
Agreed TSY.
I am fairly tempted to take a before picture so I can do an after picture and post it up.
DO IT!
iDave, hook me up with a copy of your diet please.
I pioneered a technique called "Drinking a bottle of Jura and then spending the whole of the next day with serious shakes in the fetal position on the floor under a blanket" that worked well, I didn't eat anything for 2 or 3 days but i'm not sure it's a long term strategy.
Cheers
Has anyone bought that 4 hour body book?
I'm interested in recipes for the iDave diet.
I'm not very good at cooking so struggling to know what I'd do with pinto beans etc.
Any good iDave style recipe books out there?
The original thread had stacks of recipes on it.
iDave remember to put on front brake rotor.
( Hes probabaly never even read a book never mind written several, probably in Welsh or something anyway.)
I am seriously craving some sweet liquid.. orange juice.. or even milk..

sugar addiction innit. tbh everyone is to certain extent. You'll get used to not having it after a few days.
Kev
OK, I have time to bite now. This isn't a 'no carb', or 'low carb' diet. it's not a restrictive calorie diet either - it's a low GI way of eating, with a few tweaks. The purpose is to manipulate insulin response to food thus altering fat storage and use.
It's my belief that this way of eating results in safe and lasting fat loss and enough energy to undertake endurance training and events. Obviously different individuals require different tweaks depending on lifestyle but the diet as it has been sent out will help Mr and Mrs Average lose weight. One guy I work with has lost a stone in 5 weeks, never felt hungry or weak.
It may be counter intuitive, it may go against what you 'think' is right. The most highly respected exercise physiologist I know believes that half of his 'knowledge' is incorrect. He isn't sure which half. Certainly if your negative opinion of this way of eating comes from what you may have read somewhere, good for you.
I would suggest that there is no need to drop below 10-12% for men, 15-17% for women, other than for elite sports performance or vanity.
can someone post up the diet on this thread?
i'm not posting it on here and i'd appreciate it if no one else did. it's now a small part of a paid for service the company I work for are offering so email me if you want a basic version.
Ah.. ok sorry, Dave. Didn't realise the reason you don't posted it up.
just email me GW and i'll send you a copy
idave, ygm 🙂
but it was tough and took a loooooooot of hours. The new diet promises to be lots easier, we'll see
isn't this pretty much how the entire diet industry works?
I hope you don't mind me discussing this stuff then iDave, what with it being a paid for service and all. I started the thread because it has previously been discussed a lot...
I suspect that our bodies adapt quite a lot to the food we end up eating, which is partly why people's bodies vary. I used to eat a lot of carbs, thinking it was good fuel for biking and it is. However I think my body had come to depend on it and there were negative side effects. After reading about insulin it seems that its main role is to promote uptake of glucose by muscle tissue (that right?) which is good for getting fuel to your muscles during and after exercise. However it apparently has a role in fat deposition too, perhaps explaining why it was hard for me to lose weight.
I dunno. People reported different results on the diet when it came up before - some folk found it easy to adjust and had plenty of energy, some the opposite.
Tonight I caught the train most of the way home cos my lights had packed in. I must've ridden 10km at an easy pace and I am trashed tonight. I feel like I've been racing.
The new diet promises to be lots easier, we'll seeisn't this pretty much how the entire diet industry works?
Maybe yes. But I believe iDave's diet has more merit than some of the ones you can buy books about. Other books actually do work tho.
But I believe iDave's diet has more merit than some of the ones you can buy books about.
s'up to you really, isn't it?
isn't this pretty much how the entire diet industry works?
Send me a tenner and I will tell you.
The diet industry relies on regimes which are a short term fix (if they work) and a failure to educate their clients into permanent healthy eating practices - if everyone lost weight and kept it off they'd have no repeat business.
This 'diet' is something I've used personally, I use with my clients and I'm happy to share for free to a limited extent. It's how I will eat for good, rather than how I'll eat just to try and lose weight. It's not all my idea, it's a conglomeration of thinking from various sources and studies.
thanks for the email iDave. I'll have a read, just as soon as I finish this pizza...
idave, any diets for gaining weight in two very specific areas?
s'up to you really, isn't it?
Well a lot of people on here tried it and had good results, and iDave seems to know his stuff in other areas.
Emsz.. you know the female body image industry is just as bad as the diet industry of which you are critical 🙂
idave, any diets for gaining weight in two very specific areas?
Derby and S****horpe?
There are exercises that can help - email me with some specifics so I don't assume anything....
