He didn't pull the Pin he hooked the handle and pulled it open..My mrs's car doesn't have pins either...
Getting the 5mm gap at the top of the door was easy too...

It's still deadlocked. You can't open it (legitimately) even if you're sat in it.
apparently if the key is of the radio signal to open the doors type you can send the signal via mobile phone and it works . never had to try it myself though.

I genuinely appreciate all the suggestions, but I don't drive a MkII Escort. You're not going to get into my car with banding tape. A claw hammer, maybe.

Believe you put the phone on speaker and close to the car and get someone to press the key
very close to the persons phone and transmit noise to your phone.
