It’s possible that the previous owner sanded the pads to make them look clean, in which case you’re going to have to bed them in again. It’s also possible that they’re not installed properly – check the videos on Hope’s site and follow them to the word. Can you be sure that they don’t need bleeding? Hopes have a much softer feel to Avids, which tend to be hard at the bite point and vague from then on. Hopes have a more servo-like feel to them and shouldn’t be at all on/off. If you can’t get the X2 to perform better than a Juicy 3 then it goes without saying that something is not right…
