In at 943 – and I entered at 10.45. Entries now well past the 1000 mark.

Let’s hope they have the gate at the top of the first climb open this year!

db100 – similar scenario to me, alarm didn’t go off, overslept, woke up to a text from a mate who I’d forewarned to enter this event early – karma!

Moving house and having no internet made me miss it last year, was lucky to get 1176 this time it seems 🙂

Tbh you can just turn up and ride on the day, just follow the signs/other riders..But that would be completely irresponsible and against the true nature of paying to ride on public bridleways and roads

    😉

Last year we payed to enter then rode our own route with a bit more “cheek” in it. 😆

We did take advantage of the feed station though…

A number of riders used to do this but with so many official entries it’s a bit like joining a log-jam.

Like ssstu says, a few years back it was entry on the line. What happenened to make the event suddenly take off? Is it the power of the internet, more people riding bikes, word of mouth about events? Not just HONC, but a number of events with say 500 entries ‘back in the day’ which you could enter on the day now suddenly get filled up in hours even with increased entry capacity of say 1000/1200 places.

    Bums.

I was in the bath when I got a text of my bud telling me to get myself entered. Got toweled off and dry a bit too late to get in.

Must have my name down as one of the first on the waiting list…

The first few times I did it i remember having to post a cheque off with an SAE. I suppose this is the price of progress 😯

Maybe they should run another classics themed event later in the summer?

unklebuck – I agree entirely. Another event would be perfect!

    Should I take the Pugsley???

Well there was a snowstorm the time I did it.

There is the BORC Bucks Off Road Classic, similar though I think a tad harder

i’ll be the one without a race number then, or the one riding the empty trails at home as you lot queue for a gate 😉

I will riding without a number too!

    To all those planning on riding the event without officially entering;
As I understand it, this event is not a commercial venture like the Merida/CRC Marathons or Kona Mash Up. It is not put on to earn a profit for the sponsors.
It is put on by volunteers to raise money for charity.
If you want to ride the course without entering, it would be nice if you made a voluntary independent donation to one of the charities.
If you make use of the food stops without paying an entry fee, that’s theft.

i won’t make use of the food stops if i haven’t paid, give me some credit 🙄

and as i understand it the “course” you mention is already waymarked bridleways isn’t it?

Not you. A bit further up the page.
