Need some advice of this area. Any good for holiday with a 15month old child and aged dog in July? (I understand very well that there is a little mountain bike forest or something nearby….)

Any suggestions on a nice cottage or area to stay?

A few here near a Stane
You might want to look for cottages along the Dumfries, Solway coast. Dalbeattie being the obvious start point with Rockcliffe, Kipford,Colvend, Sandyhills, Southerness, Kirkbean and Carsethorn all being near Mabie, Dalbeattie and only an hr or so from Kirry, Ae and Drumlanrigg.
Moffat is not too far out of the way either.
Sandy beach at Sandyhills!!
Nice but more rock pool beach at Rockcliffe.
Sailing at Kipford when the tide is in.

Last yr we stayed in Dumfries for our first day/ night, visited the solway coastline etc, sweetheart abbey ,then went west from there, possibly the best holiday we’ve ever had, stayed in a place called port ( not fort) William out on the west coast!! We were half an hr from one of the stanes, can’t remember which one now, just near Newton Stewart?
Weather was glorious, whole beaches to us, if you do go out west go to st ninians cave, breathtaking beach with no one there but steeped in history! I could bore you for hrs about that holiday!!!! Kids, 5 and 8 loved it!!

Stay in Rockcliffe or Kippford as the walking between the two is wonderful – it’s not far, but very scenic and lots of options. For a day out go here and let Dunc ride around nearby Kirroughtree. Don’t miss East Barcloy tearoom at Colvend or the little cafe in Rockcliffe. Dalbeattie woods have loads of walks (and some biking!)
Kirkcudbright is worth a day out too.
When the sun’s out, there are few better places with a little ‘un.

We went to the kirkcudbright tattoo, it was ace, loved the drummers called shore patrol, and Danny macaskils bike team “the clan” were there too. Lovely lovely town!

more stuff to do over Easter

from the age of 5 i spent 6 weeks of the year, every summer around this beautifully unspoilt bit of scotland,we stayed 50 yards from the beach in a place called ardwell where places like port logan and portpatrick were close by.its a great spot and the mull of galloway is certainly worth checking out too,its been mentioned that there are miles of empty beaches with incredible coastlines……you ll love it!

We stayed in Rockcliffe last year. Nice spot for the family and a stones throw from Dalbeattie. There was a red squirrel living in the trees behind the garden too. The ref was SGGT on cottage4you but I’m not sure that it takes pets and the garden may not be ideal for a little one. Our sprog was too young at the time so it didn’t matter however the beaches within 10mins are great.
