It’s interesting – there is that, but there’s also the fact that she’s potrayed as a serious cyclist. Good role model or not? I think I’d be happy with this as a role model for my daughter.

Japanese animations do seem to be good at strong, capable female characters, at least from my experience of mostly Studio Ghibli movies.

Not just old blokes – there was a really interesting article somewhere about the fad of virtual girl/boyfriends in Japan. Causing serious problems with the birth rate. They’re not pervy or x-rated, just sweetly romantic – and a lot less maintenance 😉
