Mate, walked into a bike shop & after some ‘umming & arring’ ordered an Orange 5. Just like that.
Mind you it took 3 of us to convince him that the 18″ was 2″ too big, so he’s ordered a 16″.
So after hauling a Marin Quake around the Yorkshire Dales for a year & trying my 5, he’s taken the plunge into filing cabinet/Vickers Defence system welding culture.

You must re-assure him its for the best! ,in the end he’ll know hes done the right thing! .

It’s good that they’re noisy, it means the plebs on their lesser bikes can get out of your way when you’re hammering down the descent they are doddering down ;0

I still don’t get the noise thing. I was bombing (?) down the descent to Scar House from Middlesmoor the other day & was listening for any undue din. No noisier than owt else apart from the clanging of rocks on the frame cos I was able to go so ******* fast.

One of my favourite pastimes is getting mates to buy ridiculously expensive things they don’t need. The phrase ‘you can’t afford not to’ comes up very often!

I’ve got one, RE: the noise thing, it’s not something you notice while riding it. But believe me, when you ride something else and your mate is on a Five, that’s when you notice it.

I remember someone describing a 5 as sounding like a couple of skeletons shagging in a biscuit tin.

The insults are particularly potent tonight, he’s bought a bike that makes sounds when decending. Trick him into getting some of those rubbish Hope wheels too! They make a noise when you freewheel!

So if YOU don’t notice any noise while YOUR’E riding it, who cares?

The noise is usually the hope hubs,again,once again a five requirement!
