any suggestions on this one, ok cycling (ish) but running a no no and even walking is with paIN (ALBEIT BEARABLE) been told only rest will do but staying off it doesnt seem to be helping as just normal walking and standing is hurting at times, anyone come across any ways of improving this condition?

I’ve had this, and I can’t spell it either.

    Agonising isn’t it?

Got a bit better after three or four days, was more like three weeks before I was back to normal though.

Is it PF – or do you just think it is?

Big sympathy – I had it last year in both feet for months! Typical symptoms are pain in your feet when you first get out of bed in the morning, which cleared quickly after being up a min or 2, but then walking or especially running for any distance was v painful. I got referred by the doc to the physio. They did all sorts of massage of my foot/heel, backs of calfs, and even acupuncture after a while when the other stuff didn’t clear it up.

Got given stretching exercises to do every day. There’s a rocker type thing you stand on to stretch the tendons – it allows you to bend the foot right up when you rock on it. Also had to put a bit of rubber bungee in a loop round the front of my foot, hold the other end against a desk whilst sitting down, and strengthen the arches or something by pulling down with my toes.

I got footbeds which I could swap into my different shoes, and they really helped. The physio recommended the standard ones you can get from Boots etc rather than splash out on v expensive custom made ones. For cycling I got the specialized ones with shims.

Things the physio thought might have contributed to the cause – I pronate a lot. I’d also been wearing rubbish flat soled cheapo shoes, shonky cheapo trainers to run in etc, and I guess all that contributed.

The reason I ask is that I have a heel problem which initially sounded like PF but isn’t. I know, coz I’ve had that too. One of the common symptoms of PF is sharp pain when getting out of bed in the morning.

Have you seen a GP about it yet? They might refer you to a physio who can give you various exercises to help.

FWIW – my long-term problem is pain caused through heel-strike. I’ve tried gel pads, air soles etc, but they’re all of limited use. I’ve even had custom footbeds made, but all to no avail. Scans, X-rays etc all show up clear, so the professionals can’t really tell me what it is – and therefore can’t resolve it.

I’ve had this a couple of times now, on both occasions I’ve picked it up playing footy on astroturf. The last time it lasted about 4 months. I was OK on the bike but stopped running. Went to see a physio who told me what it was but other than that not much use. In the end like Snowslave I picked up a pair of insoles from Boots for about £20 and I noticed the difference straight away. After about two weeks back to running and footy with no problems as of yet.

Here’s an example of the prostretch thingy – http://www.footsmart.com/P-Step-Stretch-10094.aspx

Other piece of advice I’d give is make sure you see a good physio. First guy I saw was not a good physio, waste of time/money. Second guy I saw was at a physio clinic that specialised in triathlon, running, cycling injuries, and they were flippin fantastic

    Hello

i had suffered from similar footpain, in heel, and forfoot, what helped major for me, was getting some spenco(go to there website) and get the sole with the foam(green, yellow)

As far as i can see, they make 2 types, one thinner, and one thicker, pick the thicker. -best ,if you go and see them yourself, maybe try them.

also, wear running, shoes, or similar, with its thick cushion, it will instant, or over time, make the pain go away, because, the pressure, will lessen.

Send me a email, if you have any Q
