ok so i build up my new PA press the headset in put forks etc etc, do up cap and forks are very stiff, back off cap and forks too loose with play. any opinions to what is wrong, all looks as it should cups look straight, bearings smooth and little collar is on ok..?
i’ve put in a fair few headsets now and never had any bother so im confuddled to what could be wrong..

cartridge bearings? checked they spin freely? checked bottom race is happy? if you sit the bearings on it does it look right?

yup everything looks good..i just dont get it..?

Possible that the frame needs facing, if the ends aren’t perfectly parallel then it won’t be right even if the cups are fitted flush.If you’ve got access to a big enough vernier caliper it may be worth measuring the cups at different points to see if they’re the same distance apart.
