En route to North Yorksire at about 6ish from the Cambridge area, how much is the Leeds festival traffic going to ruin my day? Anyone have past experience? Is this the worst thing I could be doing?

6ish from Cambridge is about the ideal time I find. Any earlier and you hit a number of oversized loads moving, and going home traffic. If I leave at 4 I get to home in Scotland at 1am, if I leave at 6 I get to home in Scotland at 1am 🙂

Sorry don’t know about Leeds festival though!

Friday night can still be a bit trying, but would have thought the most miserable part of that would be the A14.

Most of the Leeds traffic would head up the M1, no? As long as you don’t try to get across at the M62, it should be no worse than usual.

Where exactly in North Yorkshire? The Leeds Festival traffic goes up the M1/A1 and then gets taken off around Bramham I think which is on the A1 so it could be a nightmare. Depending on where you’re headed, I’d be tempted to come off the A1 earlier at the M62, head east and then go up the A19 through Selby and through to York. If you’re headed to Harrogate area then it might just be a case of sitting it out and hoping for the best!

It was fairly shite around junction 43 an hour ago. Maybe 15 mins delay?

If the thread title isn’t a euphamism it should be. Is this what you do when there’s a blockage on the M6?

Be sure to marvel at the number of ‘specialist’ shops alongside the A1 as you head north…..

Drove past the M1 /A1 junction (43) about 10 mins ago and very busy.

Hah, hadn’t actually read it that way!

Starts around Bedford and is sleazy for miles – what is it about the A1? Do lorry drivers prefer it to the M1?

As for area, Whitby area so North Yorkshire moors for a few days.

I use the A14 daily, so I have ways and means of dealing with it or dodging it.

Whitby? There is no quick way of reaching Whitby.

But you won’t be passing Leeds anyhow, will you? M18 shurely?

I usually go A1, A64, then Pickering and the likes (most of that is indeed not quick, pretty at times, but not quick). So although I don’t pass Leeds if any other soft southerners are heading North they may well also be on the A1, and the access to the festival looks to be just off the A1.

Surely they have ones nearer you and you don’t have to come all the way over here?

To be honest then, there’ll likely be a bit of a slow down where the M1 joins the A1 but A64 is the next junction and I think they’re taking Leeds Festival traffic up the A1 further so you should be fine.

    😆

It’s just one of those odd things that stuck in my memory. Hadn’t really noticed it until driving up to Burghley last year.

Journey went fine in the end one of the smoothest runs yet. I did spot an XC 90 outside one of the pulse and cocktails venues though!! 😯
