“He never gets his round in.” There is no more damning assessment of one’s character to be heard in the British Isles. Rather than approaching the bar collectively, each member of the drinking party alternates fetching a collective order. It’s about more than beer. Being in a round means being part of a group. And taking turns to ensure everyone has a full glass in front of them means reciprocal bonds are formed between all of its members.

from the same place TJ got his britishness thingy. Remind anybody of anybody?

I start fast then slow down my mate starts slow and accelerates until the pub closes or he falls over. 20 years of getting pissed and we still can’t manage 1 night out on rounds.

alternatively works piss up when theres 15 people in the round and once we get to double figures any trip to the bar results in arguments and fisticuffs (or just handbags)

Rarely both with rounds as I’m rarely there all night and certainly don’t want to waste £40+ quid on a round to then leave, and it’s too long between meeting some friends to remember.

For local friends and small numbers of course rounds are the way forward, but it puts pressure on folk and makes what is in my view a stupid correlation between drinking and pleasure of people’s company.

Its no problem staying out of a round and buying yer own, but if you accept drinks be prepared to buy back!

nice try binners, but in my short time on STW i’ve successfully coined the following:

‘it could be a childs face next time’
‘oh how the other half live’
    ‘sexyparty’

    and

    ‘i blame binners’

you can’t go starting an ‘i blame philly’ thing, that’s just not cricket!
