‘cos if not it’ll decide to reboot itself mid flight.

“all three flight control modules on the 787 might simultaneously reset if continuously powered on for 22 days.”

It said such a simultaneous reset in flight “could result in flight control surfaces not moving in response to flight crew inputs for a short time and consequent temporary loss of controllability.”

It’ll be one of those things where it’ll sit on 99% complete for 87% of the time the reboot takes, won’t it?

32,768 minutes is 22.8 days. Sounds like someone set up a minute counter and forgot to strip it out. The mind boggles about how that made it to release.

It’s not entirely dissimilar to an earlier problem that would lead all the engine driven generators to shut down if the GCUs were supplied continually for x days.

Ooh that could be exciting for the pilot/co-pilot.

It has the potential to be a little dramatic for the passengers, too.

Somewhere there is a programmer saying “But it passed the overnight tests…”

Best to make sure the Li-ion batteries in the tail haven’t caught fire first.
The instrumentation wasn’t supplied by Samsung, was it?

It’s worrying that it affects all three modules – I thought the whole point was that they were programmed independently? So not only is there a bug, the fundamentals are compromised.

Brilliant. As things get more complicated they get more expensive, so we sub out the work to the cheapest supplier.

I shall pack my own parachute and take it as hand luggage.
