  • Hardtail Frame suggestions…

Building a bike for a friend, well actually doing a frame swap to be honest (getting rid of old heavy full sus frame for a hardtail), and looking around at options and they seem quite limited… Criteria are…

    -CHEAP!!!
    -Hardtail
    -Fairly lightweight
    -Able to take V Brakes
    -Compatible with 100mm forks

The one I saw that I was probably going to get for her (oh, she's 5ft 10 too, so frame size isn't really an issue, most 16-18" frames will fit) was this…

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=13215

    But they've sold out…

    Also seen this…

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=12527

    Any other suggestions?

£100 really would be the max budget, and it has to take the 100mm Marzocchi Z4's and Deore V Brakes she already has on her current bike for defo as this really needs to be a cheap build.

And if anybody is selling anything 2nd hand in good nick that you might think would be suitable, please let me know too.

    Cheers

Merlin Malt 1 is £140… OK, not bad, but trying to see if there's anything out there for cheaper…

Those Sintesis did feature on my radar, only 19" and 20" left according to their website.

I have a Gary fisher frame you can have for £40 collected, it is a few years old now though and has quite a few pain chips but ticks all your boxes.

Pretty good IMO. I bought the semi-creme, i.e. not triple butted, but still plenty light.

I have a medium Klein Pulse Race which i am just about to put up for sale. From about 1996 but still in really good nick. I have been using it as my singlespeed for the last few years and it is the best climbing bike i have ever had.

Looking for about £100 which will include headset, seatpost and saddle (SDG Ibeam).

If your interested drop me an email: euanmcl2001@yahoo.co.uk

    cheers

Those BeOne frames look awesome for the price, but disc only means though the frame is only 95 quid, I'd have to find some disc wheels, and some disc brakes too. Even after I'd sold her original wheels (old LX hubs on X517 rims, so still not bad quality) and Deore V Brakes, It'd probably be £100 or more expensive in the long run even assuming managing to find some cheap disc brakes. Also, at 8 and a bit stone, and only a beginner offroad really, the V brakes are more than enough.

Hmmmm… They do look good… No geometry listed anywhere though! Also look very similar to the Brand X frames on CRC but with added stickers…

Though I'm sure it would probably be adequate, she wants something new, or as good as, so chipped paint isn't gonna cut it I think.

Same as above really… If someone has something fairly new, in VGC, that might be suitable then superb… Also I doubt a 1996 Klein is corrected for 100mm forks.

For much cheapness it has to be AllterrainCycles

I've got an 18" Voodoo Bokor frame that I was looking to sell. I've used it maybe a dozen times and it takes 100mm forks. I've got some MX Pro ETAs on it at the moment.
It takes V's but I currently have blanking bolts in it. I can see if I can dig out the V mounts though.
It'd be £100 for the frame or £150 if you also want the King headset that's in it.

i have an old generic alu frame you can have for a tenner. 100mm might be on the limit of what it'll handle though

These got decent reviews when they were first launched – and they're dirt cheap…

I can get some photos later tonight for you. Just need to give it a clean first!

Right, I've cleaned it but for the life of me can't find the removable V mounts which is annoying as I'm a hoarder and rarely throw anything out! Sorry, I guess it won't be any use to her without those.
