    Albeniz’s Asturias must be one of my favourite pieces ever.

    Good shout. I’m teaching myself Spanish classical guitar at the moment. I’m going to make this my next piece to learn (after Malaguena, obvs)

    How about cellos? 2Cellos – Thunderstruck

    Slow start, but crikey!

    If you haven’t watched Sheku Kanneh-Mason’s rendition of Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in the BBC Young Musician final, you really should catch it on i-player. The saxophonist, Jess Gillam, was brilliant too…

    Great clip OP.

    Me, well being a huge fan of Tomatito, I’m now mellowing to Vicente Amigo..something with a bit more rhythm..

    Totally agree SaxonRider. The guitar is such an amazing and versatile instrument in the right hands!
    I bought tickets to see this fella last month, expecting a great guitar concert… Milos cancelled due to an injury and they brought in some grey geezer with no stage presence – and he played for all of 15 minutes (the rest of the concert was full orchestra). One of the bigger disappointments in my life!

    The section after about 6 minutes actually brings tears to my eyes. 😥

    Same piece as Rocketdog. But with John Williams.

    One of my deepest regrets is not seeing Williams play before he retired.

    Very inventive:

    Love this but completely baffled as to how he does it

    The guitar is such a versatile instrument.

    I would post videos, but there are so many gloriously inventive versions by the same players, it would be unfair. Some to look for, however;

    India/Mountain Time – Joe Bonamassa
    Pretty much anything by Alex Lifeson. Especially the subtle stuff like Madrigal.
    Any time The Reverend Willy G decides to play the blues. Blue Jean Blues, for example.

    Such a great instrument.
