So I have a shiny new Garmin and I want to plot out and put some routes on it. At first glance, the Garmin Training Centre software looks a bit pants (at least for offroad) – is there better software out there for planning routes? Bikehike has been linked on here previously – is that the best online option? I’d really prefer something that I can use offline if possible though. As I have OS maps on the device it would make sense to have them while planning out the route too – can I use the 1:50k maps on the GPS SD card with an application on my PC or is this in moon on a stick territory?

Download Garmin Basecamp. I used to use some of the others (e.g. Bikeroutetoaster) but Basecamp seems to work just fine. If your Garmin is connected to the PC it’ll use the maps stored on it too.

+1 DH basecamp works well using OS 1:25K or 1:50K
