do sat navs have the function to view an aerial road map and showing your location?

or are there any devices that just do this rather than being a sat nav device?

An iPhone or other GPS-enabled phone would do it using the Google maps application. It would of course be dependent on getting a data signal and there being AP coverage for the area.
