I can practically see the landing site from my office...... waiting for a splat noise
Posted 12 months ago # -
not so much land as slow down enough to crash without major pain...
Posted 12 months ago # -
Yeh he said on the breakfast news he'd be hitting the boxes at 55mph
Posted 12 months ago # -
BBC website says he will flare out the wing suit and slow down to 15mph.
edit. unless thats different to the gliding speed in which case it will be around 50mph. ouch

Mr Connery, ...said performing stunts was "his life"
Hopefully he'll still be saying that afterwards eh.

Yup 15mph in that direction V and 50mph in that direction ->
Wonder if they could do it with some sort of huge arrester net?

Given the height of some cliff jumps snow boarders and skiers do I have wondered for quite a while of a similar result could be achieved jumping out of a plane onto a steep snowy slope with a big board strapped to your feet. But to actually have the bottle to do something like that !!!!
Hopefully those boxes had a former life carrying loo rolls - he's going to need some after that!

has he done it yet? Sky news said they'd show it at 1300

Sky being sky wont let a small issue of an accident get in the way

The landing strip will be 350ft-long, 40ft-wide and 12ft-deep. If he miscalculates his approach he will have a split second to abort the jump and deploy an emergency parachute.
Emergency 'chute. Guy's a p*ssy

Posted 12 months ago # -
BBC News says:
Gary Connery, from Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, was due to attempt the stunt at 13:00 BST but the jump has now been delayed until 15:00
Posted 12 months ago # -
Why? Really, just why?
Also, I assume that they have removed all of the tins of beans form them.
Posted 12 months ago # -
SKY:
Wingman @garyconnery jump now delayed until about 3pm or 4pm. No problems, just waiting for optimum weather we think.

I'm still a bit surprised that the 18,000 cardboard boxes cost £22,000 quid.
I don't doubt the figure, just would have failed dismally if they were running a guess the cost of the boxes in the field competition.Posted 12 months ago # -
Take off in 10 minutes
I'm quite excited about this!
Posted 12 months ago # -
just waiting for optimum weather

Posted 12 months ago # -

Posted 12 months ago # -
"Now the hard work really starts - we've got to fold all the boxes back up"
Posted 12 months ago # -
Wow! Is there a video?
Posted 12 months ago # -
Glad I didn't waste the afternoon going down there to watch it now.
Posted 12 months ago # -
You would've felt differently if he'd died?
Posted 12 months ago # -
That's a good question... I'd probably be glad I hadn't witnessed it first hand, wouldn't I?
But still... it's what I'd secretly have wanted to happen.
Posted 12 months ago # -
I was expecting a "Hell yeah!" response
Posted 12 months ago # -
well that was a bit dull. not that i wanted him to miss the boxes
I suspect once all the go-pro footage, multiple camera angles and pumping sound track are mashed together then more people will go wow. As it is people have to rely on their imagination a bit.Posted 12 months ago # -
Do you want me to edit DeBz?
