Since, as predicted elsewhere, my Apple bloody "Time Capsule" has just expired after two minutes' use, can anyone recommend a reliable, *quiet* external hard drive?

Tried Lacie. Sounded like a concrete mixer, then died. Tried Apple. Looked good, then died.

    What next?

I have a Seagate 1TB, had it for a good while now with no problems. I transport it around using it for work.

I'd recommend it as an option.

I really like the Iomega Prestige drive. 2.5", up to 1TB, apparently, nice finish, no external power brick. Pixmania DID have a cheap deal on them last month, probably worth checking out.

for quietness a 2.5 inch bus-powered drive will probably be best, but obviously not fastest.

I'd look at something like a netgear duo nas for a bit of redundancy

Ask half a dozen geeks this question, you'll get half a dozen answers.

Personally I'd go for either a separate caddy + drive solution, or if I was buying a sealed unit I'd go for one from a hard disk brand; Seagate, WD, IBM (Hitachi) etc etc.

I've always used seagate drives and never had a problem with them.
