Rocked up last week with some mates with the inspired intention of taking on this route as new way to cross the highlands. No-one seemed to have much in the way of advice for budding “attemptists”, so we figured how hard can it be! – (nothing like poorly informed ignorance to get the juices flowing)
Well the first bit to Glenuaig Lodge was standard highland fare. A mix of steep nicely surfaced climbs and really rough Landy track. After that it all goes a bit pear shaped. Lots of pushing, getting wet feet, and generally hoping it’ll soon be over – (a fat bike could ride it all though). There was several miles of this in fact, and although it was interspersed with the occasional bit of rideable track, there wasn’t really enough to make it worthwhile. The last couple of miles before scardroy was cracking though, but that then throws you out onto the Strath conon road. Great as a road ride, but there are better ways to cross Scotland it has to be said.
Overall, great views, a cracking day out and deffo a route to say ” at least I done it”. Think I’ll stick to doing the Munros that surround it though.
If you need a cross Scotland route, then Ullapool to Evanton is really the best single day out for wild riding.
Apologies for lack of pics, but look for other forum shots on highland bog and you’ll get the idea.
