Heading out for my first ‘proper’ off road ride tomorrow.

Going out with a couple of lads I’ve not met before and I know my technique and fitness will be shocking (they have been pre-warned though!!)

We’re doing the black route at Llandegla, and I haven’t ridden for years. When I was riding regularly, it was mostly Nant-yr-Arian with the occasional trip to C-y-B.

Anyone got any advise to help me get round?

    Cheers

Take it easy and don’t try too hard to keep up with better riders.
    Stay relaxed.
    Head up.
Keep a smile on yer face.

No reason to be nervous! Keep a little bit of energy in reserve – there are a couple of long-ish climbs at Llandegla, and if you puff yourself out fully you’ll e missing the last little bit of concentration needed for the downhills.

What dtp said really – ride your own ride, keep your head up high and your eyes as far ahead as possible. The terrain is not as bumpy as CyB – bit more swoopy like NyA.

Just remember the 6 coaching clichés and you’ll be fine……

……heels down, knees bent, elbows out, beard up, heavy feet & light hands

If they’re good lads they’ll let you set the pace, it’s not all about who can get round the quickest, slow rides with hops, wheelies and stoppies are just as much fun as nailing it round.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself and just enjoy it.

Good advice too – although personally I think you can safely forget all about your elbows.

Quite so. Nor without jamming the back brake on, or the photographer tilting the camera 45 degrees.
