want to add a bit of stifness, and as i need a new rear qr thinking i may as well do it now....looking to make the rear end as stiff as possible? running hope pro 2, what do i need? its a standard QR dropout...
any help appreciated! ๐
What bike is it? Did it on my Blur 4X and its made no difference at all as far as I can tell. Think it'd be much more effective on a frame like a Commy Meta, Five, Heckler etc.
cheers DBW! legend!
its a five ๐ cheers for the links, just thinking as the QR is so cheap at superstar its defo worth a shot, most xt hope qrs are about 18quid anyways ๐
so how come you think more effective on fives etc?
Back end on the Blur is one big rigid triangulated structure so any flex is going to be where the lower link is (if my logic is correct!). The way I look at it, the design of the Five may] be more prone to flex because you've got the single long swingarm (albeit a beefy one). I dunno, maybe its just the way my mind words. Also think it may work better on something like a 4-bar/Horst link rear end where there is a bearing near the axle and so more scope for some flex.
Could be completely wrong. I work in IT, not engineering!
cool cheers for the thoughts - logical by the sounds of it!
now onto fitting, how easy is it? a total hub rebuild needed im guessing? removing old bearings etc?
guessing its not just a case of removing the two end caps like on the front?
its a pro 2 evo if that makes any difference?
Mine was a normal Pro2. Never attempted anything like it before but IIRC theres a video guide on Hope's website. I found it dead easy to follow - only a 30min job.
just had a look - and hte new features of the pro 2 EVO mean no changing the axle etc, just the end caps!!! get in! simple as putting new end caps on and getting the 10mm bit from SS! (i think!)
Massive bonus!
Alternatively you could go pukka bolt up.

Either way, if you do need to swap the axle it's pretty easy. Take end caps off, pull cassette and carrier off, knock axle through (I forget which is the right way now), knock off the bearing that comes out with the old axle, pop it on the new axle and reverse the process.
EDIT - re-reading your post, do you even need the axle anyway? Just some larger end caps and that Pooperstar 10mm QR would do, wouldn't it?
EDIT AGAIN - too slow...

well i think so ๐ not so sure now - i had my pro 2 replaced foc from hope and it was recent so put a new shell on - not so sure the internal stuff changed, just literally the shell?? would this still be the same so i just use end caps?
im awaiting an email from hope, but not so sure now, as i think they took internals from my pro2 into the new shell??
DBW is correct for original Pro2. New Axle, caps and the SS QR here too.
Can't see Hope having cobbled you an Evo shell onto original innards !!!
Made a noticable difference on the Meta 5. Very happy.
Was a bit of a cheapskate and just bangged the old bearings back in after the axle change.... they developed play very quickly after so I'd recommend a main bearing change at the same time if it turns out you really have original Pro2 in there.
Fr and Rear instructions here if you go that far:

pretty sure they did, just managed to speak to them - its not there fault though, id literally just had new bearings put in and a new freehub - hes pretty sure he just put in the new (but old standard pro2) bearings etc in...
so ill need the full kit - cheers for the info ill take a look at that foxy - used there guide to service forks last week and it was spot on!
