if you were being treated by a specialist and he decided that there was no more he could do for you, how would you go about getting a second opinion?
or getting to see another consultant who specialises in your problem.

Call me cheeky but I’d ask that consultant how I’d go about getting a second opinion.

GP would be my first port of call; or indeed asking the consultant..

“There’s no more I can do for you.”

“Fair enough. Can I speak to someone who can?”

i did not really want to ask the consultant…..it will feel like i am doubting his advice/knowledge.

Why , youd ask a few tradesmen about a job, or post it up on here, just go back to your GP, IF WORRIED.

+1 for your GP. Nothing wrong with doing some research beforehand though “I would like to be referred to Dr abc at hospital xyz please”

Who cares, it’s not like there’s anything else he can do for you (-:

You are. This sounds like it’s probably too important to get embarrassed over.

ton – ask your GP if he can refer you, if he tells you the waiting list goes into next year then say you want to see a consultant privately.

Take control and don’t worry about pissing off medics. 😉 We come this way only once …

Good luck with it and let us know how you get on. 🙂

I went to my gp who using the book and choose system got me an appointment with a consultant who had been recommend within 3 weeks, a suprisingly easy process.

I paid to go for a private consultation a couple of years ago. It cost £275 with Nuffield Clinic.

    Cardiologist?

Different people have different skill sets, if your consultant can’t help any more ask if you can be referred to someone that might be able to. Its not doubting there work, its a case of saying ok, where do we go from here?
