I have a Garmin Dakota 20 and an Imac. i have been looking into buying some OS maps for a scotland trip, but have been getting more and more confused by the whole thing.

it seems some digital maps are compatible with garmin, but not mac, and some are mac compatible, but not garmin.

any advice on which digital maps to buy that will work with both would be much appreciated.

    cheers.

Install parallels and windows and use sporttracks.

i went the other way and bought the garmin maps on an sd card for the gps (edge 800) then use either map my ride for road rides or http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/maps/ GPS planner (you need to register to get the 1:25000 maps) for my off road excursions.

    Worked out cheaper that way

As far as I know, there isn’t any digital mapping available that you can run on both a Garmin GPS and a Mac. If you want OS mapping direct on your Mac, Anquet does a Macintosh version of its software, which is okay, but would mean buying the same mapping twice in different formats.

Or, as above, use a free online route-planning site, download the GPX file to your Mac and then copy it onto the Garmin.
