Cheers guys – will check them out.

P.s – What maps are you running? I hear the Topo maps aren’t all that. I have some Tracklog software already but is there an option to run like Satmap with map on screen?

    i use city nav europe

    i even paid for it!

topo is ok but i wouldn’t fork out for it

prepare to be frustrated, it’ll take some getting used to

I have a 305 already but like the idea of having a gps also so may be I could use it on the motorbike.
Is it like the 305 at all?

    operating system wise yes.

route finding can be a bit hit and miss for bicycle but will be ok for motorbike

£284.95 is the best I’ve found so far http://www.purelygadgets.co.uk
I paid £276 a year ago for the same spec from Dabs.com

    keep an eye on flaybay.

i got my 705 with HRM and cadence for 200 quid about 6 months ago (total bargin), ‘sourced’ the maps from elsewhere. NT europe for the roads (pretty good) and topo for off road (not really used that much). a great bit of kit.

Have you thought about buying a cheap windows mobile / ppc device (50), a Navman B10 or similar (20) and get something like Mapyx Quo? If OS maps are important to you they do the cheapest OS tiles.

I’ve always found Expansys to be good for GPS but it currently seems to be more expensive than some of the links above…

    No.
Dabs.com are listing the 705 with HR and Cadence for £250, but none in stock (of course) 😕

I use a derivitive of openstreetmaps on my garmin- free, legit and superb.

It’s a version that’s been aimed at cyclists by a chap on the tritalk forums.

    Updated weekly or thereabouts.

    Have a look here…

hi paul to you have any links to screen shots or links to it to see what it looks like (and does it auto route?) just so i can see the maps before i prob end up deleting my current maps by mistake while trying it out lol cheers

    Hi Mick,

No screen shots I’m afraid- hard to get them off the garmin.

There is a screen shot here:

    http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/mtb_map

If you don’t want to risk yout maps just pick up a spare sd card to deploy it on- just requires a folder called garmin, and the map file in the folder.

Have a look here for more info:

    http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/OSM_Map_On_Garmin

The mapping is great- does auto routing, and contains a lot of cycle specific info- a lot of the swinley singletrack has been mapped, and appears on it.

Mick- dfinately give it a try.

For the price of an sd card, its worth it.

I picked mine up on STW with a wanted ad for £200 and then sold the cadence sensor I didn’t need for £25.

I was going to buy one but bought a V3 cateye. I just use the A-GPS on my mobile and sports tracking which has been great.

If Garmin release their new model then I would deffo buy that.
