    What are you paying locally?

Seems to be around £45 – £50 around Burnley, decent independent with a good reputation.
Not a huge amount compared to some, but boy does it add up.

Full service, new radiator, discs & pads and a bit of exhaust welding £650.
    😐
    Could be worse I suppose.

£70 down south for somewhere with coffee and a reception desk.

I use my back street fella who’s closer to £30.

My local independent near Stockport £50. They seem to be able to get quite a lot done in an hour though.

One car goes to a specialist that was £60+VAT for ages but this year has gone up to £70+VAT. Wife’s new car will go to VW for routine servicing to keep the history up to date but for just the servicing it’s not too expensive.

Beyond that, any small-medium jobs, and everything on the other cars I’ll do myself. For big jobs I have to bite the bullet and send it to the garage, e.g. the van went for a new clutch a couple of years ago. It was just too big a job for me to do on my own.

Doing stuff yourself makes a big difference. OP almost certainly could have done the brakes himself, and a rad is probably not too difficult either.

    Edit – in Berkshire, FWIW.

£50 for an independent inside the M25, which I think is a good deal. They charged me for .85 of an hour for doing a job recently when many would just bump it up to an hour. No coffee though.
