    I tried to put my XT cranks on my 2000 Specialised Rockhopper FSR,
    but when I torqued it up to 40lb/ft, the inner chainring was rubbing on the bottom bracket shell so the cranks wouldnt move
    So I replaced them with the original crank,but that wouldn’t turn either cos the ring was hitting the front mech somewhere
    So why was it all working fine before I touched it?

    The crank bolts were a little loose but everything worked fine

    the bike is completely original, BB, cranks, mech, even grips and tyres

    OK, sorted
    I retorqued the cranks to about 25ft/lbs and they work again
