I found out what that meant from this forum, so someone does.

Egg banjo, yes, been calling them that for as long as I can remember.

…the yolk and sauce dribble down your front. You move the hand containing the sandwich away and up to a point level with your ear as you look down your front and usually to an accompanying “Aw bollocks” you wipe/smear the said yolk & sauce into your shirt with your free hand giving a passing imitation of playing ‘an egg banjo’ !

“Anyone that puts sauce with a fried egg sarnie deserves everything they get. “

And what they get is a winner of a sandwich.

🙂 Should qualify – a runny fried egg sarnie, should be devoid of additional sauce.

    If just meat = HP

Meat + egg = tomato sauce

Just egg = nothing, or if I’m feeling a bit lah-de-dah, bovril

The perfect sauce for a fried egg sandwich is surely fried bacon?.

    Aye, egg banjo.

Had one that bit back the other day. Minor hangover at work, so got one from the canteen. Eggs were super soft. Not good when I have a beard. Twas messy.

Egg = brown sauce (not cheap crap brown sauce either). Only honourable exceptions are omelette, boiled eggs or eggs benedict/florentine/etc…

Come the revolution ketchup + eggs will put you against a wall.

Who would have a fried egg sandwich and not go the whole hog, so to speak, and have egg bacon and sausage triple with red sauce?

Whereas the bacon and egg banjo is commonly known as the Beggy..
The phrase coined by the indomitable Beggy **** Face..
A beast of a man, irresistible to women and oblivious to their advances in equal measure..

Unashamed to shit his pants in the company of strangers, he treads a lonely path.. His belly full and his mind a whirling chasm

The bloke who used to have the burger van at the top of Glen Ogle had Banjo Burgers advertised, he would demonstrate what they were as well!

I solved this dribble issue by slicing the sarnie in half and consuming said half in one bloody great mouthful. Easy with a gentle shove. No mess.

White Bread, Egg and Cheese , no sauce required .

I thought it was Forces slang.

Same here, specifically the sort of slang spoken by those who claim to have had one in The Boathouse when they were in The Regiment.

Never heard anyone refer to one in that way and I came from a forces brats school, must be an English regiment thing…

No no old chap nothing as uncouth as The Regiment. Hereford gun club is where one gets ones banjo.
